Chyan Spring Program 2019

The days are getting longer already. Daffodils, snowdrops, primroses are all showing their colours and the blackthorn is about to bloom.

In celebration of this dawning springtime, we have an exciting program of events at Chyan in our spring program: a number of new regular events and some fantastic one offs, as well as volunteer days. VOLUNTEER DAYS

The Wisdom of Trees – tree planting volunteer day

On Sunday 17th March we are holding a day for the trees at Chyan.

This is a day to celebrate the importance of trees, acknowledge the challenges we face on this earth at this present moment, to think about how we can protect trees and to introduce our children to the essential need for connection with our trees and the forest.

The event will include:
– volunteer tree planting – putting down new roots
– A Talk on Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature – how we can unite to protect nature
– Treesisters Talk – women coming together to stand for the trees
– Film showing: “Call of the Forest – the forgotten wisdom of trees”
– Games, stories and activities for children.

All are welcome to attend this event – adults and children alike. Meeting at 10.30 on the Community Field for tree planting.

Donations welcomed – to go to supporting the rights of trees on Planet Earth.

Come down to the Apple Barn at Chyan for our monthly VEGAN FEAST…last Sunday of every month…. bring a vegan dish and share a vegan feast with some like-minded people. Come and chat, bring an instrument or a story or a poem….

Kundalini Shakti Dance Temple
Sacred Yoni Cornwall presents: Women’s kundalini dance circle.

Come and shake it all out and meet your divine feminine in this sacred women’s dance space – move without shame, self-consciousness or ego.

This session will involve some circle work, guided movement, lots of free movement, some amazing music as well as some relaxation and sitting meditation for integration purposes. We will be using some of Osho’s Kundalini techniques and encouraging our chakras to open and our energy to flow.

Macrame Workshop
Come and learn the ancient Arabic art of Macramé – the art of decorative knot tying.
Macramé is a great storage solution – it is fantastic for utilising vertical space in your home.
We will be making some beautiful macrame objects to take home – participants can choose their own level:

Easy: make a saucer, a plant holder or jam jar and tea light holders.
More complex: make a large plant holder.

Materials provided: If you have a particular plant pot that you want to accomodate, bring it with you. You can also bring any beads along that you would like to embellish your creation with.macrame 1

Samantha Tancock loves any craft that involves wool or string! Knitting, crochet, weaving, felting and Macramé. Mum to four boys and a couple of sheep, she is also a forest school leader – if she can’t get outside, you’ll find her baking or crafting.

Edible & Medicinal Foraging
Come and learn about all things wild and local that you can pick and eat from our hedgerows and fields.

Join local foraging experts Caroline & John and learn how to sustainably harvest wild food and medicine from the plants around us.

Foraging is a wonderful skill to learn, and not just for the free food! As we learn how to use the various plants that surround us, we form a relationship with those plants thereby deepening our connection with our local landscape.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or for more experienced foragers to deepen their knowledge: the workshop will be tailored to the experience of the people who attend.

Chyan Community Field & Cultural Centre is a wonderful setting for this work: a biodiverse area which is representative of much of the local rural environments you will find in Cornwall.

Slipper Felting Workshop
Treat yourself to a relaxing Saturday in a lovely and warm environment at The Sky Barn at Chyan and make your very own cozy pair of felted slippers to keep your feet warm in these cold days.

This workshop will give you a short introduction into preparing raw wool for felting (i.e. washing, teasing, carding and dying with natural dyes) and lead you in detail through the different stages of felting your very own unique pair of slippers.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Felt making is a very relaxing activity, perfect for this cold and wet time of the year. Working in pairs, your slippers will be fitted to you, feeling the soft sheep’s wool and warm soapy water on your feet (hope you are not too ticklish!!!).

So join us to a lovely craft workshop, with nice people and home cooked lunch in a warm and cozy barn.

Please bring an old large and small bath towel.
Workshop start at 10:30 and finishes at 4ish

Copper Bowl Workshop

Come and learn the satisfying art of working with copper.
In this workshop you will make your own copper leaves and a small copper bowl to take home.
This class will teach you how to feel confident to use the basic fold-forming and basic sinking and rising techniques using recycled copper.
No experience necessary. Age 10+ – children must be accompanied by an adult.
